Mio caro Florimo – Non voglio perdere un momento per darti la grande novella della prova generale \fatta jeri/. Il concorso era come in una prima rapp‹resentazio›^ne. La musica è stata trovata bellissima al non plus ultra!!! Ti dico che mai al mondo provai più gran piacere – Tutta l’alta società, tutti i primi artisti e quanto si trova di più distinto a Parigi, era al teatro entusiastato; e chi m’abbracciava di quà, e chi m’abbracciava di là, non escluso il mio carissimo Rossini, che veramente ora m’ama come un figlio. – T’acchiudo due articoli di giornali usciti questa mattina – Questa sera dovrebbe essere la l:^a rap‹presentazio›^ne ma Tamburrini è ammalato, ed anderà forse martedi; e ciò mi dispiace; ma pazienza, infine vada ora quando si vuole, io sono all’apice della gioja! e tu?... ben credo che gioirai al pari del tuo Bellini – Fa legere i qui acchiusi giornali agli amici, e poi subito nell’istesso giorno spediscili alla mia povera famiglia, che starà palpitante per quest’esito – Addio mio caro – Ho ricevuto le tue lettere riguardo alla partizione dei Puritani che quest’oggi avrete dovuto ricevere. Dì al prin‹ci›^pe d’ottajano che subito mi scriva se sono contenti del duele de Richelieu, poiché bisogna che mi metta al lavoro subito, perché avrò delle proposizioni lusinghiere della Grand‘Opéra, ed io allora resterò a Parigi sino che avrò finito la mia carriera, che pare, progredisca con grande fortuna. Oh mio caro come ti desidero a Parigi! Ma, tutto non si potrà avere in questo mondo – Addio mio Florimo

My dear Florimo - I can't wait to give you the great news about yesterday's dress rehearsal. The hall was filled as though it were opening night, and the music was found to be beautiful beyond compare!!! Take it from me, never in the world have I experienced such pleasure.- All of high society, all of the premier artists and the most distinguished luminaries in Paris were there in the theatre expressing their enthusiasm and embracing me right and left, including my beloved Rossini who now truly cares for me like a son. - I'm enclosing two newspaper articles that came out this morning. - The first performance was scheduled for this evening, but Tamburini is ill so it may be postponed to Tuesday, which is unfortunate — but never mind, in the end it hardly matters when it goes on, I'm over the top with joy! And you?... I can well imagine you rejoicing no less than your Bellini. - Do have our friends read these enclosed articles and then send them straight away to my poor family, who will be waiting anxiously to know how it went. - Farewell my dear friend - I received your letters regarding the score of I puritani, which should have arrived there today. Tell Principe d'Ottajano to let me know immediately if they are happy with the Duel [sous le cardinal di] Richelieu because I need to get right to work, given that I'm sure to receive flattering proposals from the Grand Opéra that will enable me to remain in Paris to the end of my career, which seems to be moving along most auspiciously. Oh dear friend, how I wish you were here in Paris! But one can't have everything in this world. - Farewell my Florimo.
